Entra Join - Password Prompt Disappeared
I started a new job a month ago and had to troubleshoot a Microsoft issue that was strange and mysterious. Why mysterious you asked? Well, it’s because there was no error.
Problem: When trying to join Entra ID - new name for Azure AD - on a Windows computer manually under Settings > Accounts > Access Sork or School > Connect, the username window appears. Once typed in the email address, the window shortly popped up the password screen, then disappeared in a blink of an eye. There was no error message, code, or prompt. 😭
Doesn’t matter which internal account we tried, if it was Windows 10 or 11, or if it was a brand new computer with OOBE. All were the same, the password window would disappear in an instant. It was like a phantom experience. 🥷
However, when trying with my old company’s credentials, the password prompt remained on the screen and didn’t disappeared, so the problem was definitely specific to the new company. Spooky! 👻
Apparently, the company has been working with Microsoft Support for about a few weeks, and they’ve just been reviewing logs after logs.
To be honest, I didn’t know coming into this problem on how to fix it. HAHAHA
However, 3 days in, and I was able to solve the issue. WooHoo!!!
The fix?? Well, it was filling out the Company Branding on the Entra ID portal! No joke! I’m for real here!
Did I know that it was going to be the fix? Nope! All I did was fill in things that needed to be filled in as that was one of the things I learn from an MSP (Managed Service Provider) I’d worked with. Their Company Branding under Entra ID wasn’t filled out, so I filled it out, and Voila! Fixed!
Microsoft doesn’t say that Company Branding is a mandatory settings, but looks like it’s a requirement in our case. Thus, if there are settings for Intune or Entra ID, do try to set majority of them even if they’re at the bare minimum.
Also, don’t forget about Customization under Intune > Tenant Administration as it’s similar to the Company Brandy on Entra ID.
